Peace Begins At Home

A resolution was adopted in 1994 that made the prevention of domestic violence an identifying focus for Soroptimist International of the Americas. The North Atlantic Region has supported this initiative by adopting the “Peace Begins At Home – Stop Domestic Violence” program. Grants are presented to eligible NAR clubs in the second year of the biennium at the Spring Conference.

The NAR provides grants in order to encourage and support clubs to become involved, or to further their efforts, with domestic violence initiatives. The number of grants and the value of each grant are based on available funds that are raised at the region, district and club levels.

Peace Garden

The Peace garden is located in Brownsmills New Jersey and is primarily maintained by SI of Rancocas Valley. The Peace garden was adopted by the North Atlantic Region (NAR) as a way to bring awareness to the issue of domestic violence and to support the Soroptimist programs of service; education and the environment.

Recent addition to the garden include a crying angel in memory of former NAR Governor Jane Hoffman.

Soroptimists participate in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in November of each year by hosting a candle vigil at the garden.
